Shorefast’s 2025 impact report reflects on a remarkable year in our organization’s history. This past December, we officially launched the Shorefast Institute for Place-Based Economies, marking the moment when two decades of practice on Fogo Island became a platform for national impact.
 
The report brings together Shorefast’s economic contribution generated on Fogo Island, provides updates regarding community businesses and programming, and outlines the Shorefast Institute’s work that is now underway with places across the country.
 
It was a strong year by every measure. Our community businesses kept growing and Fogo Island Inn once again earned Three MICHELIN Keys. Our programming brought neighbours and visitors together in ways that continue to strengthen the Island’s social and cultural fabric and the approaches developed in our community are now being shared with places across the country through the work of the Shorefast Institute.
 
All of this work rests on the same idea we started with: that local, place-based economies are worth building deliberately. When the assets and knowledge of a place are connected to the wider world, local economies serve both the people who live in them and the country they are part of.
