Sowing Seeds: Kitchen Garden Workshop

Community Events

Event Information

July 10, 3:00PM – 5:00PM at Punt Premises, Joe Batt’s Arm

Join us for an informal open house workshop and conversation on how to sow seeds for a traditional Kitchen Garden. This is an all-ages event to bring together community to talk local knowledge. Bring your green thumb as well as any tips & techniques (and, maybe, a recycled egg carton.) Seeds & soil will be provided.

In Newfoundland & Labrador, kitchen gardens were an important part of outport life and offered a unique connection between the land and our built environment. Underground structures, commonly referred to as ‘root cellars’, winterized root vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, turnips, parsnips & beets, all of which are possible to grow in our climate, and necessary to cook our traditional recipes, including Jiggs’ Dinner.
