FIA Arts Weekend

Fogo Island Arts is hosting its inaugural annual Arts Weekend, May 16-19, 2019. Hosted by FIA Strategic Director Nicolaus Schafhausen and Shorefast co-founder Zita Cobb, the Arts Weekend will feature a selection of distinguished speakers, and upwards of 15 local artists, crafts people, and performers sharing their work. There will be an exhibition opening at the Fogo Island Gallery by celebrated Canadian painter Brenda Draney as well as studio visits with FIA artists-in-residence.

Exhibition Opening at Fogo Island Gallery

The Fogo Island Gallery presents a solo exhibition by celebrated Canadian painter, Brenda Draney. Smelling Salts softly, yet bravely, unravels personal memories of times spent in the hospital and is a reminder of the universal vulnerability inherent in our finite narratives. The exhibition will be on view until September 2. Join us for its opening on Friday, May 17, from 6:30-8:30pm. Free & all are welcome.

Join Fogo Island Arts for the first screening of Fogo Island Film 2019: Resistance and Resilience on Thursday, May 30, at 6:00pm in the Fogo Island Inn Cinema. When Lambs Become Lions by Jon Kasbe (USA, 2018, 79 min) is a film about a small-time ivory dealer in the Kenyan bush, fighting to stay on top while forces mobilize to destroy his trade. When he turns to his younger cousin, a conflicted wildlife ranger who hasn’t been paid in months, they both see a possible lifeline. Free & all are welcome.
